We will be learning how to do portrait photography so that we can take head shots for the actors of theatre company. These head shots will be put outside of the theatre for the run of there show and will also be put in the programs.

Step 1: First research portrait photography on this website.

http://www.digital-photography-school.com/6-portrait-lighting-patterns-every-photographer-should-know/

Draw the 6 diagrams in your process journal.

1. Split Lighting

2. Loop Lighting

3. Rembrant Lighting

4. Butterfly Lighting

5. Broad Lighting

6. Short Lighting

Read and look over this article as well.

Step 2: Experiment with all 6 of these lightings in the photo studio with lighting. (This is in the back of the Learning Commons - Ask the teacher there if the room is available when you are ready to work. Load these onto your IG.

Step 3: Then try and create all 6 with natural lighting outside of the studio.

Step 4: Load these onto your IG.

Step 5:

Reflection in your process journal: Portrait Photography

When would you use each kind of lighting?

What mood does each of the lighting set ups give?

Head shots

Step 6: Do some research and write the answers in your process journal.

What are head shots?

Who needs head shots?

What are some of the most important aspects of a headshot that you need to consider as a photographer?

What is the play about that theater company is doing?

What does the director Ms. Scozzafava want the photos to look like?

What will they be used for?

When do they need them by?

Step 7: Practice taking head shots of someone in the class and edit them in Photoshop, we will be using black and white images.

We will choose from these images which style we would like to use for the head shots for theatre company. The person who's style is chosen will be the director of the photo shoot and editing process.

Step 8: We will plan a photo shoot time with Ms. Scozzafava and her actors and their makeup artists.

Step 9: When it comes to the time to shoot. Make sure you are ready for the photo shoot. Have the studio set up and your camera gear set up and ready when they arrive.

Step 10: Some of you will be responsible for Photograph the actors and some will be responsible for photographing the crews. Based on the style of photo shoot we have chosen we will choose a lead photo director.

Step 11: These images will be edited and cropped the same size for both the print out for the display case and the program.

Step 12: These images should all be similar so they go together, split the work up between everyone in the class and it should go quickly and the director will insure that everyone does it to the same specifications.

Note: They should be clear in focus, and use a tripod. They should be edited to all go together and labeled with the names of the actors to make it easy for file saving and viewing.

Step 13: The director will be in charge of having every image sent to them and then putting them in the program.

Step 14: Reflect

1. What did you contribute to this extended group project?

2. What did you learn about being a professional photographer?

3. Besides actors who else would need head shots?
